    Default Our image problem

There is no place where lawful gun ownership is more sorely needed than amongst poor minorities in inner city America.

No one needs a gun more than a woman who is being abused by a physically stronger partner, or stalked / attacked by a sexual deviant.

Gays who are bullied and attacked based on their sexuality need to have the option of lawfully defending themselves more than most groups.

There is no better protection of bleeding heart liberal values like personal freedoms of expression, religion, and human rights than "good guys with guns."

I am a practicing LTCF holder in Philly. I am a clean cut, straight, white guy without a police record, and not a member of any of these groups.

However, on most every pro-gun forum I find, there are racist, sexist, bigoted remarks that don't have a place in civilized discussion on any subject. Why is it necessary to call someone a "butch ****" who has an opposing view, or make veiled and not-so-veiled racial disparagements (especially anywhere the President or urban issues are discussed.)

I am interested in strengthening the 2nd Amendment. To do so, shouldn't our mission be to educate as many people as possible about the benefits of responsible ownership? If you were one of these groups, would you feel like PAFOA is a welcoming place to come and learn about gun ownership in PA?

While getting my LTCF in Philly, I made several trips into the licensing building. Most of the applicants were black.

We are "shooting ourselves in the foot," in my opinion, and missing out on opportunities to educate and expand our support base to different groups of people.

Two questions. Do you have examples of rampant bigotry on this site, and have you ever seen the bigoted hate-filled filth of anti-gunners?

People need to grow up. If the rules are that I will always be judged by the image of worst possible example of a gun owner then I should just put Diane Feinstein's image as my avatar already (because she is the worst gun owner) and be done with it.

Walking on eggs while carrying some irrational bag of collective guilt is what caused your problems. Maybe it should be better if we don't even talk about guns except in hushed tones in private places. We've seen how well that worked out for our parents and grandparents - that's what created anti-gun culture.

Gun owners are here, we're queer, get used to it. Don't tell me I'm part of the only group on the planet that has to worry about the slightest mistake of 149,999,999 other members.

You are so concerned with gays and minorities, do they wander around paranoid that one of them might say something stupid because they are gays and minorities? Or should they only worry because they are gun owners?

His point is there is a class system in our society, and if you are gay or a minority you must be worshiped, and if you are a gun owner you must worship. Or suffer collective punishment for the failure of any individual.

It's the kind of garbage that is dividing and destroying not gun owners, but our entire Nation.

Yeah, right? Archie Bunker never went away, he's just been hanging out at the range. The passing of time will wash away the old ideas..... and those that cling to them.

Go no further than the media, they will go to any length to ensure that their caricature of the legal gun owner/NRA member is 180 degrees diametrically opposed to reality.

It is, and always will be, an uphill battle for gun owners because the Leftards control media and education....just the facts.

Op has to remember the demographic of law abiding gun owners is conservative heterosexual caucasian between the ages of 21 and 180. The average level of education is associates degree in a technical field or trades person. We are christian leaning to no religion.

However, there are openly gay members, a few minorities, several women post here, one of our most eloquent and respected is a woman. We have libertarians, democrats, socialists, teaparty, even anarchists. There are anti hunters, pro hunters. Conspiracy theorists, chem trail believers, birthers, immigrants and natrual born, just about every walk posts or reads this forum.
Yes there is some misogyny, some racist, some homophobic, anti government, some stereotyping, some race baiters, but for the most part if people can stand some heat, speak their minds, get educated, share personal experiences, don't post fallacies or illegal, unsafe or blatantly un American dogma, they are most certainly welcome.
But We are Americans Who love our rights and freedom.
For the most part we welcome all people, regardless of any hyphenating variable they may choose to differentiate.
But if you are someone whom is easily offended or who can't take sarcasm or criticism, this isn't a place for you. If you post something controversial you better be willing and able to back it up with facts because you will get called on it.
Welcome to the forum. Don't take it too seriously because it is the internet.

There is only so much you can do when people lie about you (media, etc.)

But this video probably matches the views of a lot of members on this forum:

Honest, law-abiding gun owners are a plus for our society, whether or not they are black or white, male of female, straight or gay.
