Re: New technology to track cops' guns.
There's a reason those devices cost more than $400/unit and the chinese knock offs cost less than $100. Because the quality of the work is higher to ensure that they can survive. One method to help with the shock is to coat the electronics in epoxy so that they can't shake loose. The boards probably have some shock protection built into them, kind of like what's being done in buildings in earthquake zones. The boards probably ride on some rubber bushings to isolate them from the framing and damp the shock.
These are guesses to be sure, but there are methods, it's just not easy nor cheap to do it in such a confined space as the optics.
So the question then comes down to, do you want to add an additional $400 to the expense of every handgun that you buy? That would make HiPoints almost $700.Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Re: New technology to track cops' guns.
You are also adding considerable weight (albeit 2 or 3 oz) to the belt that each cop has to carry, to the gun they are trying, under EXTREME stress, to keep on target, and, not to be sexist, but some of those cops are going to be lightweight female-type cops.
I saw a female cop down in the city the other day that had trouble carrying her coffee and bag of donuts. Seriously, 450+ pounds of ugly, all squeezed into a size 'too damned small' uniform, jelly/belly rolls of fat (multiple rolls) spilling out both sides, back, and front. You're going to tell me you want to add 3 oz to her 'load'? Damn, we are going to need more mil-spec buffalo trucks to cart her ass around.
Seriously, this isn't going to happen except in the MOST liberal of cesspools, and even then, it won't last the first year out.
