    Jump on it.

A JM stamped 336 and never fired? No brainer. Nice find.

It was won in a raffle 19 years ago. Thanks for your input I will secure this with cash tomorrow. I was a little wishy washy, now I will jump on it.

Yeah, any JM Marlin is going to fetch a premium over a Remington manufactured Marlin.
I don't know the actual value but I'm going to say that $300 is a steal for an unfired JM Marlin. Heck, even well-used deer rifles sell for $300 every day of the week.

Buy it, then go post about it on Marlinowners.com where they will go on and on about the great deal you got. LOL

Not a 336. A 30AS - "even better" from what I read on Marlinowners forum.

It is a 336 but I was commenting generally. The "30AS" designation is just a version descriptor.

That's interesting. I bought a 30AS from my father in law 25 yrs ago for $100. He won it in a raffle. Aside from a scratch on the stock it's in great condition.

The 336 and 30AS are two very different rifles. OP stated he found a 30AS. Calling them the same is like saying a Rem 700 BDL and ADL are twins.

I have not seen it but he read the numbers off the rifle and it is an A S . I know the guy also. Im pretty stoked about this. We have used lever actions for 35 years now starting with a 70s Mossberg. Love them . Hell my 15 year old son shot a buck two weeks ago in Wisconsin's youth hunt with his 30-06 and told me that was his first buck with something other then a lever action 30-30, of his five bucks. Best brush gun I've used. Compact and fast.
Thanks for all of your knowledgable input gentlemen!

OK. My point was they are built on the same action.

So are the BDL's and ADL's.
