EXCLUSIVE: Attorney General Kathleen Kane Doubles Security Detail
Updated: Thursday, October 9 2014, 08:00 PM CDT
Reported by: Chris Papst
It’s been a rough summer for Attorney General Kathleen Kane. First, she was heavily criticized for not pressing charges against the so called “Philly Five” and then for selectively releasing sexually charged emails from the AG’s office. Now she's found herself in another controversy.
It's been confirmed that Kane has doubled her security detail for previous Attorneys General costing taxpayers at least an extra $85,000 a year.
In the hierarchy of Pennsylvania government, few elected officials receive a tax payer funded security detail. This service is limited to the Governor, Lt. Governor, their families and the Attorney General. These security details have remained consistent through recent administrations. Attorney General Kane has doubled her protection from her predecessors Linda Kelly and Tom Corbett.
Via Right-to-Know requests, CBS 21 obtained documents showing Kane increased the AG’s normal security detail from one agent, to two. CBS 21 has honored a request from the AG’s office to conceal the agent’s identities. The documents we obtained show one makes $85,008 and the other $96,763, costing taxpayers $181,771 a year, which does not include expenses, just to protect the Attorney General.
Documents show both agents, including Kane, are based in Scranton, meaning all three make the 125 mile one-way trek from Lackawanna County to the capital nearly every day, in the same car.
“As a statewide official, she’s supposed to demonstrate shared sacrifice. She’s supposed to be a leader.” Eric Epstein, is with Rock the Capital, a government watchdog group, who questions why Kane requires more security than previous AGs.
“The bottom line is, she needs to justify why she requires an entourage to commute long distances every day, at taxpayer expense. It’s a legitimate question. Taxpayers demand to know. She owes us an answer,” stated Epstein.
In a statement, Kane's office had this to say: “Security needs are routinely evaluated and protection is assigned to the Attorney General as necessary for the given day and location. The office does not discuss day-to-day assignments due to safety concerns.” - J.J. Abbot: Attorney General’s Office
Kane’s security detail consists of agents from the AG’s office. The Governor, Lt. Governor and their families are protected by State Police.
While the Pennsylvania taxpayer is now paying for two agents to protect our Attorney General, Florida’s AG, for example, does not have a security detail.

Meanwhile, she's stripping our ability to protect ourselves while she hires more armed protection for herself, that we pay for.

Re: AG Kane has doubled security detail
Personally not thrilled with the woman but being who she is I can understand the heightened level of security. Two guys are joke and pretty much useless to deter someone who really wanted to harm her. A random nut case on the other hand it makes a good deterrent.
Take Hillary the only reason she won't leave Bill is she would lose her Secret Service protection. There are more people that would like to see her dead than those would like to harm the former president. That's the main reason she wants to be president so she can finally leave the lounge lizard with out losing her Secret Service detail.
This is why Bill is out banging any socialite bimbo that comes walking by because he knows Hillary will never leave him no matter who he screws, literally.
Did you see how shocked the left was when the Republican lawmakers went nuts over the incompetence of the secret service and Obama's safety?
No one wants another sympathy vote in 2016 like there was in 1964 after John Kennedy was assassinated. Talking to people that were around back then Kennedy probably would have lost in 1964 had he not been assassinated in November of 1963. That is why you don't want anything to happen to Obama because it would be a coronation of Hillary.

Just ANOTHER Liberal view that is DO AS I SAY NOT AS I DO.... what a crappy piece of work she is... If she wants to DOUBLE the security then she should pay the difference....
Time to make a suggestion to the legislature to put a stop to this tax payer based abuse....

The cheaper "bodyguard" costs the State their salary of $85,000 time one and a half times or $127,500 a year.
If she would move to Harrisburg she could have one bodyguard. She could probably rent a place for a lot less than the $10,625 a month that her second bodyguard costs the State.

Re: AG Kane has doubled security detail
Here's another good saving....
If she is hitting the State for 85 cents a mile she is racking up... 125 miles times two 250 miles a day.
Five trips a week fifty times a year. That's two hundred fifty round trips times two hundred fifty miles a round trip. 62,500 miles a year.
At 85 cents a mile this character is costing the State an additional $53,125 a year.
Divide $53,125 a year by twelve. $4,427 a month.
You could rent quite a place in Harrisburg for $4,427 a month couldn't you?

Re: AG Kane has doubled security detail
Ms. Kane ran for Office. She should stay close the Harrisburg so that she can do her duties as Attorney General.
We the Taxpayers are expected to pay more Money because the State has needs. How about the State reduces its Wants before they cry poverty about their Needs?
