Traditional Fox Hunts

A friend of mine recently told me about a fox hunt his brother has scheduled to take place this Saturday (10/11/14)

This is a "traditional" style hunt where they will utilize a pack of dogs to chase the fox, followed by a pack of "hunters" on horseback (don't know all the proper terms).

I just happened to be perusing the Hunters and Trappers Digest today and realized something...fox hunting season isn't open yet. The season is scheduled to open Oct. 25th.

Is this an issue? Is there some kind of exception for this type of activity?Chasing and potentially killing game during a "hunt" sure sounds like hunting to me.

I have no idea but it is not legal for dogs to chase deer.

Perhaps it is legal for dogs to chase fox providing there is no killing of the animal involved and it more of a social thing.

Fox have feelings too so...

My understanding is that the intent is to just chase the fox around for a while. Very often, however, the dogs catch up before they can be called off and that results in a dead fox.
