Re: .22 Alternative (SHTF only)
The whole point to SHTF is to prepare before something bad happens. If you are down to OP's option...I'd say you didn't do a very good job planning.
As another poster already stated, if you have pellets, you should have an airgun to utilize those pellets. Airguns are going to be more quiet compared to a 22 blank.

Re: .22 Alternative (SHTF only)
You guys kill me. I started this post because I thought it was interesting video on firing a pellet using a nail gun blank. Short of being in a situation like the movie The Grey or if I had to fight a Gorn.
Where I needed to MacGyver a working rifle to survive (and I had the correct supplies) I don't think I would ever try this at a range. I like my .22 too much to abuse it like that.
But just for for those who say if you have pellets you have an airgun, that is not true for me. I had an airgun in my teens, a Crossman pistol. That is long gone but I still have a box of pellets (clean lead if I wanted to cast any bullets) I also have a small nail gun for a job I needed years ago so I also have the blanks. So I am the exception. (Me and the Mongols. If you don't get the reference watch Crashcourse, World History on YouTube )IANAL MPMO VIVA CUBA LIBRE

Tough crowd.
I thought it was an interesting idea.
Not going to try it, but it's good to think a little outside the box.I am not a lawyer. Nothing I say or write is legal advice.

Re: .22 Alternative (SHTF only)
I agree. Looking at the damage to the steel plate that pellet was smoking. They said 2500 fps estimated but I think it was MUCH faster. I have a 1100 fps pellet gun and when you shoot a steel plate the pellet just shreds into dust leaving a grey mark on the steel. Cutting a clean hole like that is unbelievable.
Accurate or not my, dark side keeps telling me to try it on that pesky squirrel eating my sunflower plants........

Re: .22 Alternative (SHTF only)
Dam interesting and it works. There are a lot of people that do this with the .25 cal rf rifles that it is very expensive to find. Never saw it with a .22.. There is a little more too it than they mention. Not for the average person.
