If I really do my part, the best I've gotten was 0.65" to 0.75" 5 shot groups out of my Armalite SASS at 100 yards. I've done that on a few occasions using Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr and reloads. My reloads are Sierra MatchKing 175gr BTHP. 44gr RL15, Winchester primers and case sized to 2.8".

ETA - more often though, I see right around .85 to 1 MOA with my SASS using off the shelf loads. My 5.56 ARs are usually in the 1 to 1.5 MOA category.

    This setup

    gets these types of groups

It is a sub-moa gun when I do my part; probably could do better if I wore corrective glasses for my astigmatism. Accuracy is more than just an upgraded barrel.

I really like this thread. In the spirit of it, I'm going to try to bust some moa or better groups. I quickly shot 15 rounds of Magtech 77gr today through each of my 2 ARs. I'm posting the targets warts and all for comments and posterity's sake. I'm thinking my wife's BCM is capable of the MOA or less mark. Today's conditions were not the best to try but who cares.

One thing for sure is there is ALOT of bullshit going on when it comes to the 1 MOA all day claim!

    10/7/2014

Range: SGL 43 Elverson PA 100yard line. 09:00 condx:

    temp 64, wind swirling/gusty approx. 7-20 mph

    bright sunlight

Gun 1 BCM midlength lightweight upper on PSA lower. USGI carry handle, stock trigger. 50yd zero. Gun is filthy.

Shot from seated pos. Mag monopod.

Target 1. Missing the 5th shot? Wind or me not sure LOL.

    2nd target, shanked one bad.

    3rd target.

Gun 2 Colt 10.3 inch, all factory. Shot seated, mag monopod. Eotech su231 (553) 65moa/1moa dot, stock trigger. Gun is filthy

    1st target

2nd target, wind was howling around at this point

3rd target. This one is laughable, the tagboard the DNR uses at the range was folded up a bit. This target was on the bottom right and was occluded in quite the shadow. No excuses but it was tough to get a bead on

Anyway thanks for making this thread ARjohnson. I'm gonna keep trying

I shot this group at 100 yds. Using SSA 77 gr BTHP with my AR build.

    Great thread!
I consider myself a Novice shooter & a novice reloader. From a benchrest at 100 yards these are the results I was able to achieve using a bottom tier rifle- Colt LE6900 (that Colt didn't even make), a $60 4-16 Centerpoint scope from Walmart. No mods to the rifle other than my cheap paint job. The barrel is 16"1-8 twist non chrome lined. I used handloads of 62 SS109 FMJBT, & 75 Hornady HPBT

More accurate than I am. I need to get some contacts or sport glasses if I want to hit more than 8 groups" past 100yds.

I have a 20" chromed line colt barrel and a colt BCG on my set up. Growing up I never had a long range accurate weapon so I spent some money on the upper parts. Its way more accurate than me. It definitely competes with my hunting rifle. I shoot a 3" group at 100 yards which I know is human error. I am satisfied with it.

I agree, it takes more than a barrel, ammo is very crucial. Hand loads will always bring out the best in any precision rig.
