How do you know where is open to hunt in a State Park?
I have several state parks in the general area here, including French Creek (which is adjacent to SGL 43).
I know hunting is allowed in the park, according to the website The combination of habitats at French Creek offers a variety of hunting opportunities. Over 6,000 acres of the park are open to hunting, trapping and the training of dogs during established seasons. Common game species are deer, turkey, rabbit, pheasant and squirrel.
I cannot find an indication of what those 6,000 acres are. The park hiking trails map does not show it. This description seems typical of all the park websites I have looked at.
Am I missing something obvious? I'd hate like hell to be hunting in a closed area by mistake.

Is there a park office? An assigned park ranger that works there? I'd look for and ask the staff.
Edit: Here is contact info from the park's web page

Look up the map of the park on their website. The areas open to hunting will be of a certain color. As far as I know, all their maps are like this.

This is correct. Here is a link to the State Park system. The maps clearly show where hunting is permitted. http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/
Be safe (and practice your land navigation

Re: How do you know where is open to hunt in a State Park?
It's been my experience that State Park hunting areas are generally wide open with the exception of office, campground, day use and other occupied areas, for obvious reasons. Connecting trails or travel routes between these areas are the exceptions to the rule. Some are open, some are not. They are usually pretty conspiciously posted, but as mentioned, check with the park office to be sure.

On the map for Evansburg SP it is pretty clear.
On this one for French Creek, not as clear to me.

The light/yellowish green should be the closed areas. The tan area is Hopewell Furnace Nat'l Park, it's closed also. They do patrol the lines.
Also, you have the Berks/Chester line in the area, that affects what is a legal firearm.
They used to have paper park maps that were pretty clear and easy to read but they always seemed to disappear quickly from the information station.

It seems the screen on my old laptop must be wearing out.
Looking at it, I cannot discerned the different map colors very well.
On my wife's iPad though, they are clear as a bell.
