Default Harrington and Richardson Old Shot gun question

Im trying to find out more information about a Harrington and Richardson shot gun 12 gauge single barrel with the serial number 222681 - no letter or model is present. I know it's pre 1940. Can anyone tell me more about it and if it has any value?

I'm not much of a shotgun expert - I have several H&R pistols. I believe letters in their serial numbers began in 1940 so you are probably correct yours is pre-1940. H&R out of Worcester Mass, later out of Gardner are usually lower to average priced guns - but there is always the occasional one that is more collectable. Knight maybe able to shed more light - times like this I miss 32magnum was still around - he was a H&R expert but sadly passed a few years ago. Good luck!

Just wanted to bump for you, If you can't find any answers here or on any other web sites maybe you should look into buying this book:

    http://www.cornellpubs.com/old-guns/...p?item_id=1305

This is probably your best bet. If memory serves H&R [or maybe it was Iver Johnson?] had a fire in their factory and lost a lot of thier info on serial numbers and production numbers.

Also if you want the most detailed information buy this book:

    http://www.gunshowbooks.com/cgi-bin/...5&sid=M23wDEm3

Yea, for that price you could buy another beat up orginal H&R sitting in a gun shop but the book is over 600 pages and written by the autority on H&R guns. Sadly he passed away a few years ago and was a active member on another firearm forum and would give awesome info on H&R and Iver Johnson guns.

Here's and example of how knowledgeable Mr. Goforth was H&R guns: http://www.thefirearmsforum.com/thre...uestion.32291/

Gunbroker is the best place to go to get the value of a gun like that. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples though.

Unless it is some rare model that i cant find, my guess is it isnt worth more than $100. Good luck with it though.

PS... make sure when you search GB you check "completed auctions" and not current ones. Completed auctions, with bids, give you the actual cash value of the gun, not just what people are asking for it.

    Pictures speak a thousand words..

To identify the model and to gauge its value we must be able to see it. H&R made a number of pre-1940 models. If there are any roll stamps on the gun we will need to be able to read them in the pictures or you call type them out exactly as they are stamped.

Otherwise the situation would be like someone asking about their Ford car while only giving the engine size.
