Question about open carrying a long arm in PA
Hi, I'm new to PA, I just purchased a home in Beachlake, 15 minutes from Honesdale. It's a weekend/summer home. I want to keep a shotgun (Remington 870) in my house for home defense. I'm not going to be carrying a handgun because I have a NY driver License with a NYC address on it. I know open carry is legal and CC requires a permit. I won't be getting a CC permit, my question is, can I carry my shotgun when I go hiking by the Delaware river or lets say a forest in PA? I will not be hunting game my reason for carrying is for self defense.

IANAL but I believe you can transport an unloaded long gun without a LTCF. It is legal to OC a long gun without a LTCF.

Re: Question about open carrying a long arm in PA
It begs the question: Although your domicile is (unfortunately) New York City, you do maintain a residence in Pennsylvania. Since Pennsylvania requires you to be a resident in order to get an LTCF, and in order to be a resident you have to have a residence, why can you not get a Pennsylvania LTCF?
I think the best person to answer this would be a legal type, but if anyone's willing to give it a shot, go for it.

Re: Question about open carrying a long arm in PA
I agree. If you CAN get an LTCF do so. You may be better off with a shotgun, I mean it is a shotgun, but for hiking it's added weight you don't need when you can have water, not to mention a good revolver or a 10mm semiauto will pretty much take down any four or two legged critter that threatens you, and to add, it would be lighter and more comfortable to carry. Also think of it this way, do you really want the hassle of some sheep to call MWAG(Man With A Gun) about a shotgun?

Just remember the game commission may not see this as open carry. They may just see it as hunting without a licence.
troll Free. It's all in your mind.
