Right to Inform Question
I am a PA resident with a carry permit. I was reading an article about Shaneen Allen, that poor women who drove into NJ and told the cop she had a permit and was carrying and is now facing 4 years in prison. In the article, her lawyer said the reason she told the cop she was carrying was that, in PA, you are required to inform the police you are carrying when you are pulled over. Is that true? I thought PA was NOT a duty to inform state???
The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others.

Re: Right to Inform Question
PA is NOT a "duty to inform" state.
Although, I believe, some PA sheriffs (and Philly PD) mistakenly inform LTCF holders that they do have to inform.Last edited by HiredGoon; September 27th, 2014 at 10:36 AM.

Re: Right to Inform Question
The flyer they hand out there with an LTCF has been posted here a couple of times. It clearly states that there is a duty to inform. I think it also says that you'll be arrested if a gun is stolen from your car. Both completely false, but if you get your legal advice from the PPD . . .

Re: Right to Inform Question
Lots of misinformation:
Saw a report that said she had completed the required training for a PA carry license. Of course this is not required.
Said her gun was legally registered. Technically not true as PA does have a sales registry but not actual registration.Right of citizens to bear arms ...shall not be questioned.

Re: Right to Inform Question
If the Philadelphia Police Department informed her, in writing, that she was obligated to inform, could she not sue the Philadelphia Police Department for erroneous legal advice? She certainly now has standing.
