    Default Straw purchase question.

I recently sold a pistol on gun broker dot com.
After the buyer paid for the item, I had my local FFL ship it to his FFL in Utah even though he lived in California. He told me that the pistol in question was not on the approved list for transfer in California. I assumed dual residency. This morning I received a copy of an email from his FFL stating that he would be returning the pistol to my FFL since the buyer could not purchase the pistol and have it transferred to his mother since that would be considered a straw purchase. The email also indicated that he could not receive transfer since he was not a resident of Utah.

So to make a short story long, should I refund any money to this guy less my expenses or just take the firearm back and keep it as liquidated damages?
    What do you suggest?

Also could there be any legal problems down the road for me?

I would return his payment, less expenses.

Yep but maybe make those expenses include 10% of the purchase price for trying to break the law and being stupid about it.

Do I or either of the FFL's have a legal requirement to report his activity.
If someone attempts a straw purchase.

No. Some people are just mistaken on what they can buy and where they can buy things.

Just return his $$ once you have your firearm back in your hands.
