    Default Help a suppressor n00b with first purchase

    About a month and a half from now is my birthday and for it I am considering buying a can. My two current choices are either my G19 or the LMT. The Glock I imagine would be cheaper even considering I would need a threaded barrel but I honestly like shooting my AR a little more. Something tells me to get a basic, not overly expensive can for the Glock and be happy for some time.

    Where do I go? Glock or LMT?

    Consider which one you're more likely to use in your home in self defense where you're not going to have immediate access to ear protection. Then buy the can for that firearm.

    LMT.
    Hearing damage can still occur whether you're worried about it or not. I guess I just look at it from a practical standpoint than a fun standpoint.

    Agreed but there will have to be a few things in play for that to happen;

    A really loud pistol.
    A lot of gun fire.
    Weak genes.

    Plus, a little tinnitus keeps you company when you're home alone sitting on the toilet.

    From someone that's suffered with tinnitus for about 10 years, it's really no fun.

    I personally would go with a nice 308 rifle can. I personally like the Yankee hill machine cans because the QD system is cheap and then you can put it on all kinds of things. I did eventually buy a dedicated 556 can for my Colt, but it is just one of those things.

    YHM TI 308 can

    Dedicated 556 can

    308 can on R700

    I try to run it on as much as I can to preserve as much of my hearing as I can. The army has been doing a good job of reducing it.

    Browsing around it looks like SilencerCo makes a few multi caliber options. Is it possible to buy one can that works for 9mm and, say, 300 Blackout? I know I would just be spending more money on an upper but no one ever said guns were a cheap hobby.
