I run Mepis (linux) on my shop computer. The updates do not work. Is that something you could help with if I sent you details?

What error are you getting specifically?

try updating your repo's

I dont use Mepis, but I belive its debian based so try

sudo apt-get update

then

sudo apt-get upgrade

or make life easier and switch to ubuntu

Yes. It's a common lockup. Send me the details, and exactly what errors you are getting if any. My email is unix_slayer@mgmnetworking.com or unix_slayer@verizon.com
My specialty is operating systems. I can also fix NVidia, or wireless network driver problems, which are the most common in linux.

With update lockup, you can't update.

He states it won't update, so it probably won't upgrade either. Ubuntu is a really great installing operating system if you want ease of install. Actually I prefer KUbuntu. They have a great new edition version of Hardy Heron 8.04 that has major customizations for people with fast video cards.
