Looking For a Good Quality AR 15 Gunsmith Around NE Philly Area
Hello,
If anyone can please recommend me a really good reliable Gunsmith with attention to detail, who can do some custom work on my AR15 Rifle
And a good local place for AR15 Parts and Accessories too.
Truly appreciate any help as I honestly have no idea where to go...
I am local to the Far NE Philly area, but of course can gladly travel for good quality work.
Thank you so much to all for any and all advice or opinions.Last edited by sniperrr; September 20th, 2014 at 05:12 AM.

What are you looking to have done?
I ask, because there are some gunsmiths that specialize in one thing or another. Like if you want a custom caliber, custom barrel, etc. I'd say go one place, but if you need something else I'd say to go elsewhere...

Re: Looking For a Good Quality AR 15 Gunsmith Around NE Philly Area
Hi,
Thank you so much in advance for your time and all your help,
Ok, so I am looking to remove the regular plastic short forearm with the regular mounted standard front large sight, as well as remove the large ring in back of this standard forearm,
Would likely like to get a non plastic (aluminum ?) slim longer tactical like forearm with rails, with a real small gas block of some type instead of the sight in the front, and the upper to have a non stop continous like running long rail up on the top with no ring in between, possibly a better different barrel too, then of course add some cool accessories like a grip for both the front and the rear, and change the rear charging handle to have a larger grip, as well as a better extendable rear stock, and a different trigger guard.
and... ???
Maybe few other things as well, possibly a good trigger, and would truly love to find a real good deal on a slightly used Eotech for sale.
Think this here would be a really good start for this AR 15 rifle.
By the way, if needed and this makes any difference, it is a Carbine made by Stag.
Again thanks so much for all your help and any advice.
Best Regards.Last edited by sniperrr; September 22nd, 2014 at 03:00 AM.

Re: Looking For a Good Quality AR 15 Gunsmith Around NE Philly Area
You can go to ANY gunshop, and they'll have a gunsmith or know someone that can do all of that work.
Or everything that you are doing, is pretty easy with some simple hand tools.
You're not machining anything with critical tolerances. try ar15.org or one of the other forums, youtube, etc. It's simply a bolt on affair.
For accessories, parts, etc. online is always going to be cheaper for most things. I find some good deals on ebay, occasionally gunbroker, sometimes slickguns.com has some deals.
First, identify the parts that you like, then go from there. If you have any more questions, on how to take the barrel assembly apart, watch a video, and ask questions on here.

Re: Looking For a Good Quality AR 15 Gunsmith Around NE Philly Area
These are very straightforward changes. Most guys on here have the tools and know how to accomplish this project. Search some sites like http://www.aimsurplus.com, http://www.joeboboutfitters.com, http://www.elitetacticalcomponents.com, http://www.bravocompanyusa.com, http://geissele.com, http://www.kakindustry.com.
There are MANY more sites out there, these are just the ones I frequent most. Once you have an idea of what direction you want to go start to order parts. Someone on here I'm sure would be willing to help or you made it easy for a local smith.feedback thread http://forum.pafoa.org/feedback-109/...aj-c-burg.html

You can get some good ideas from this thread as well. If you see something you like, just pm the person and ask questions.

I'd be willing to bet you could do all of this yourself.
You'll need a bench vice, pin punch tool, a barrel nut tool, drill with excellent bit, and a low profile gas block. PRI makes some good ones.
See these:

If you're completely not set on DYI-
Check out Tanners in Jamison. They're renowned for smithing services, and this is a relatively simple job.
As far as free-floating handguards, there's tons out there.
This is nice since it'll utilize your existing barrel-nut.

checkout john robinson, great guy, competant gunsmith, and reasonable prices. i've know john since the late 90's and have always been satisfied with his work. he's working out of claytons in horsham, pa. clayton's is located on RT 611 just south of the old navel air station.

Re: Looking For a Good Quality AR 15 Gunsmith Around NE Philly Area
As others have stated, everything you want done is pretty simple stuff for you to do yourself. I personally think doing your own work on stuff like that is a lot more fulfilling than just handing it off. But I also understand some people would rather just have it done and get right to using it. Either way it's your call.
I'm from the same area as you, and have the done this kind of work multiple times. If you just wanted some guidance on how to go about doing this work, I'd gladly help.
