Gun Range with Rentals near State College

Hey everyone,

A grad student at Penn State contacted me and was curious if there are any ranges near the school that offer gun rentals. To my knowledge, there isn't anything too close. Does anyone know of any?

Also, the project he is working on necessitates that he be able to shoot different materials. He is working on creating materials resistant to a range of calibers and also testing existing materials like different types of vests, woods, and stones.

I suggested possibly using the auxiliary ranges at Scotia and cleaning up when done if he can find some friends with the correct calibers for his study. Depending if I have them, I may lend a hand.

While I don't know any, if this is a legit study, I bet there are more than a few people who would love to lend a hand in that area that are members here.

I believe there are some nice ranges in Mifflin County. Check out Lewistown Pistol Club.

Welcome to the Sticks of Pennsylvania..

Ranges - we don't need no stink'n ranges..

Rentals? That is what family get-togethers are for.

Seriously - you'll be lucky to find a range, let alone a range that has rentals in this general area. Most folks around here just shoot on their own land, or a friend/family member's land.

While there are plenty of ranges in the region (Mifflin County alone has at least 5) I don't know any that do rentals.

I doubt that they will let you test shooting different material, though.

But if he decide to use Scotia, I would be willing to lead a hand (and a few guns). That would give me an excuse to head out there. Besides, I would LOVE to see the effects of .300 Win Mag impacting on different material...
