I can't believe idiots like the woman mentioned in the article live in my neighborhood! This woman does NOT speak for the whole community!

Common sense? Common sense is the gun is unloaded. That kids are curious about guns and can experience them under the supervision of an adult or sneak a touch or feel unsupervised. I guess we wouldn't sit a kid in a race car or fire truck or on the back of a horse either? A screwgun or saw at Home Depot? Pet the baby croc at the zoo?

I think this is a great way to introduce gun safety to kids. According to the article no safety advice was given, but hopefully that's not actually the case. Also the community outreach is a good thing between police and citizens.

My kids at an early age saw what was left of a woodchuck after the gun went boom. They first-handed learned quickly that guns were not toys and were to be handled with care. Too bad most kids never get that practical lesson.

Sure, they could have had some gun safety literature to hand out, but overall, what's the problem with cops showing kids that guns are just a tool and NOT some evil piece of death-waiting- to-happen-without -human-influence-machinery?

Probably not as good as well-informed parental units introducing them to it, but, hey, it's Philthy. Not a lot of quality parental units to be found, are there!
