    Default Transferring Handgun to Daughter

    Hello
What is the proper way to transfer a handgun to a family member?
I'm considering gifting a handgun to my Daughter who is a LTCF holder.
Is it simply a signed note to her gifting it or does it have to go through a FFA?
    Thanks

You hand it to her. She says thank you. All done.

Parent to child requires no paperwork at all.
That said, if she plans to carry it, the she should have something to show the ownership trail, IMHO.

A note from you is probably ok.
Transfer at a FFL would remove any question of ownership if she is ever hassled by the cops and they use their ROS database to determine if the owns it ( yes, that is not legal, but I am being pragmatic).

I'm assuming that your daughter who has a LTCF has a resident LTCF and is a PA resident, then MikeB is correct, hand it to her.

If she has a non resident LTCF and is not a PA resident it needs to be transferred to her at a FFL in her home state.

However, if she plans on carrying it, some police departments like to treat the record of sale database as a defacto registry and confiscate any firearms not "registered" to the person if discovered during a law enforcement encounter. Sometimes the assistance of a lawyer is needed to get the firearm back and often in this case costs more than the firearm itself to replace.

    BTW

    Here is the applicable law.

    http://reference.pafoa.org/statutes/...r-of-firearms/

Specifically see Duty of other Persons.

A transfer between a spouse, child, parent, grandparents or grandchildren are exempt from a FFL transfer.

I believe the OP meant FFL instead of FFA.

    (c) Duty of other persons.--Any person who is not a licensed importer, manufacturer or dealer and who desires to sell or transfer a firearm to another unlicensed person shall do so only upon the place of business of a licensed importer, manufacturer, dealer or county sheriff's office, the latter of whom shall follow the procedure set forth in this section as if he were the seller of the firearm. The provisions of this section shall not apply to transfers between spouses or to transfers between a parent and child or to transfers between grandparent and grandchild.

I was mistaken, and deleted my post. I thought all handguns had to go through a FFL.

Handgun must go through FFL. What is FFA?
Future Farmers of America, they don't get involved with handgun transfers but, along with 4h, do take care of transfers of moonshine.

    4-H and FFA
On a field trip to the farm
Me 'n' a friend sneak off behind
This big old barn where we uncovered

    A covered-up moonshine still
And we thought we'd drink our fill
And I swallered it with a smile
    Bll-bbb, I run ten mile

    Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug
Make you want to holler hi-de-ho
    Burns your tummy, don'tcha know?

That explains the funny look they gave me when I asked if they sold Guns.
    Yes I meant FFL.
