CA lawmakers pass firearm safety, ammunition bill
It's time to move to CA. They are making it safe for all of us.
BULLSHIT!!
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —California lawmakers on Friday acted on bills that tackle firearm safety and add rules for ammunition sales.
The Senate unanimously passed SB505 by Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson, D-Santa Barbara. It would require officers to search the state's database of gun purchases when checking on whether someone may be a danger to themselves or others.
Jackson says searching the gun database could help prevent tragedies such as the May shooting rampage near the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her bill now goes to the governor.
"This bill would help ensure that law enforcement agencies are using all the tools available to them to gather potentially life-saving information for themselves and others," Jackson said in a statement.
Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office deputies were criticized for not searching Elliot Rodger's apartment during a welfare check in April after his parents became concerned about his postings on YouTube. The 22-year-old community college student killed six university students and himself in Isla Vista weeks later.
A database search could have helped them better assess the danger Rodger posed to himself and others, Jackson said.
Separately, the Assembly approved a bill creating a way to better track ammunition.
SB53 by Sen. Kevin de Leon, D-Los Angeles, requires ammunition vendors to be licensed and people buying ammunition to pass background checks. According to his office, the state Department of Justice will be required to keep a list of all authorized ammunition purchasers to make sure ammunition will only be accessible to lawful gun owners and not dangerous criminals.
De Leon's office stated that while California has enacted legislation to keep guns out of the hands of criminals; little has been done to prevent them from getting ammunition. Supporters estimated that millions of rounds of ammunition are being sold to criminals each year.
The bill passed 42-26 and returns to the Senate.

If the governor signs it and it becomes law, I think an awful lot of Californians will be visiting Oregon, Nevada or Arizona to purchase ammunition.

Re: CA lawmakers pass firearm safety, ammunition bill
The state will be swimming in paper work which is the reason why that hand gun ammo registration was removed from the 68 Gun Control Act when they passed FOPA.
The price of ammo will be prohibitive to pay for the administration of this new law. But this is what the fools of CA. want. Usually in an election year, the politicians would be afraid to pass such draconian legislation, but not in that crap state.
There is one very popular mail order ammo supplier in L.A. LAX Ammo will probably have to move to another state.Last edited by c45man; August 24th, 2014 at 09:29 PM.

It is so nice of CA to be helping the economies of their neighboring states. The road to hell and damnation is paved with good (and stupid) intentions. Or so said my 3rd grade teacher Sister Angelica. (she swung a mean ruler, my knuckles still hurt. ) I guess she was correct.

CA will need to implement another means to do background checks because using NICS(which POCS use also) for anything other than firearm transfers or carry licenses is against federal law.

Re: CA lawmakers pass firearm safety, ammunition bill
This law is not about keeping ammo out of the hands of criminals. It is about pricing ammo out of reach for the law abiding. Criminals, like insects, will survive under any condition (law) by adapting. The 42 or whatever California leftists that voted for this legislation know that just as well as I do.
On another note, the states that are California wannabes will try to legislate the same thing. No doubt, the stooges from across the river will probably be next. One can expect an ammo shortage in our state. The DRPA bridges will buckle from the ammo weight crossing over.Last edited by c45man; August 24th, 2014 at 10:03 PM.
