    Default Building an AR 15

Apologies if this has been asked before.

I have been told that I shouldn't buy an AR 15, that I should build one. Here are the reasons they have given:

    1. It's a lot cheaper
    2. It won't have serial numbers
    3. You can customize it a lot if ways.

How much if this is true and should I do it or should I buy one?
    This is a bold statement.

If you are not good with handling small springy thingies, then you are better off either buying a complete rifle, or buying a complete lower, then finding a complete upper with particulars that you favor, then mating the two.

If you are mechanically abled, you could assemble a lower, then buy a complete upper, which is the route most take.

All lowers bought will have serial #'s, unless the lower is an 80%, which then you will have to machine the other 20% to make it functional. These have no serial #'s, because you basically created the firearm part of the rifle, which is legal.

Being cheaper, can be, or not!

The problem is purchasing the tools. If you have a friend with all the tools, it is cheaper. It is fun to put together and to learn how the AR functions. Wealth of knowledge on the web. You just have to be patient and wait for the sales during Holidays and sites like Dvor and such.

You can buy a fully built AR for less than a typical build...especially when you factor in shipping for all of the individual parts from different vendors. If you have great patience, you can wait for good deals and free shipping on parts, but I can tell you this: my patience has never lasted long once I have started to buy up parts. That said....

If you want just a stock setup of some sort or are okay with a factory assembled one in whatever setup they use, then just buy one. If, however, you are going to replace parts anyway (grip, rails, sights, stock, etc) you might as well just build it. Buy the right tools if you can't borrow them (you will build another one, trust me.)

I also enjoy the fact that I took a pile of metal and springs (though they were all formed for me, sorry I can't afford the machines) and made this awesome piece of equipment from them. It is fun, plus, you really get to learn about the inner workings and how they function...good thing to know for when the zombies come and you have a malfunction.

Not necessarily, but you can add the features you want.

Not True. Unless you go the 80% lower route.

    3. You can customize it a lot if ways.
Very true, this is what leads to a build being more expensive, than a "store bought".

There are a lot of deals out there right now, depends on whether you are mechanically inclined, and if you have the gotta have it right now syndrome.
    Parts take time to ship.

Noticed you are in Orlando. Head up to Apopka. Spikes Tactical is located there.
