Body cameras for cops?
They should also be live mic'd and recorded for their entire shift.

For years I kept saying, that it's a good idea, and we should influence our legislators towards bill, that would require cops to wear such devices. I know Pitts PD tried to do that few months ago, but postponed it, due to some technicality. I didn't really follow up.

They are only interested in the video if it supports their point of view. Some are already saying that the store video in Ferguson is tampered with. The guy was digitally added to the footage!

Re: Body cameras for cops?
For the officers to be live mic'ed wouldn't the PA wiretapping laws need to be changed, or the police would have to wear some sort of identification that they were recording audio if they went anywhere that was considered private property, or which had a reasonable expectation of privacy like a mens room or locker room.

Re: Body cameras for cops?
I think it's a great idea in principle; as with anything though the devil would be in the details. I think in some departments the technology might be cost prohibitive. Maybe if funding for MRAPs is cut there could be some federal funding for some beneficial day-to-day law enforcement tools that would open up.
