I just don't "get" Frank Sinatra
Yeah, he was a mega-superstar singer, but I never understood why. To me his "talking" style of singing always sounds like he's off-key and is hard to listen to.
I just saw a show on PBS about him and thought I'd see how others felt. I just watched a few minutes of the show.
I'm in the minority I guess, but I never understood his immense popularity as a singer.
I'm not Sinatra bashing, just don't understand it. As an actor, I thought he was good, like in Von Ryan's Express, The Manchurian Candidate, Ocean's Eleven etc.

The "chairman" Old Blue eyes he did it his way and IMHO was one of the best singers ever. I could listen to him, Dino, and Tony Bennet all night long.
If you liked him in those flick check out his Tony Rome character.
He was offered the "Dirty Harry" part before Eastwood.
oracleThe oracle is in. Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!!

He was born in Hoboken, a rough town at one time. I guess it made him the rebel type.
Also the women LOVED him. Kind of like a "classy" James Dean.
Maybe it had something to do with Nancy's boots.
Personally, I could take him or leave him.
Now Dino, on the other hand........thats a beautiful voice, and another story.

I am just under 40yoa and have loved his style all my life. Took a lot of grief from friends growing up I guess it is that talking style that I have always liked. Some other favorites I took grief for growing up was Marty Robbins and Anne Murray. Again, it was the storytelling style that I liked.
Be safe.

His singing voice wasn't what was compelling, it's what he did with it, he had an amazing sense of timing and phrasing. I still prefer Dean Martin though.
