    Default Transporting handgun in Ohio

    Here's the scenario: my wife and I are headed just across the border of ohio to pick up a space heater that I had located on another forum. Being that I only have my pa LTCF, I am fairly certain that I cannot carry locked and loaded while traveling in Ohio. My question is whether I can unload at the pa/oh border, secure the firearm in the trunk separate from the ammo, make my stop in ohio, and reverse the above once safely back in pa w/o committing any no-no's. I am not familiar at all with OH's laws on merely transporting a firearm and was hoping someone might be able to shed some light.

    Thanks!

    Believe

    (C) No person shall knowingly transport or have a firearm in a motor vehicle, unless the person may lawfully possess that firearm under applicable law of this state or the United States, the firearm is unloaded, and the firearm is carried in one of the following ways:

    (1) In a closed package, box, or case;

    (2) In a compartment that can be reached only by leaving the vehicle;
    will answer your question. IANAL.

    I did read that. My question is regarding whether I would fall under the "lawfully posess" portionof that law. I am not a prohibited person, so am I therefore able to posess lawfully, even with no real purpose in mind?

    Purpose of possession is not in question.

    Does Ohio's must inform law apply to transported like it does to a sidearm being lawfully carried carried in a vehicle?

    Doesn't Ohio have open carry? That may be one option.

    For future travels to OH (if any), you might want to get a permit from a state that OH reciprocates with like AZ or UT.

    Open carry is legal regardless of state of residency.

    It's not legal in a vehicle without benefit of an Ohio CHL or recognized equivalent.

    If you had a FL non-resident CC you could carry in OH.
