Re: 2014 PA Renaissance Faire Carry
So my question is who the person on here that keeps emailing and complaining about the gun policy? I heard all about it last weekend. Yes , i work part time there on the weekends doing security. I have posted the rules before , as have a number of people. Yes no guns suck, but as every other place we gun owners frequent , it is a privately owned business.
The owner is not anti gun ,he just understands that they are a brewery and winery and people drink ALOT. If your caught carrying you will be asked to leave it in your vehicle. Im sure many people CC and as long as your not seen printing no one knows. The choice is yours if you want to visit. To me it is a fun place and worth " not open carrying ".
The armed guards you seen walking around are not sheriffs. They are a private security company and most are ex law enforcement. The guys in the yellow security shirts ( what i do ) are almost all ex military. We dont carry weapons as we are just the guys that check ID's and keep people from leaving with open alcohol.
We do peace tie weapons. It has nothing to do about keeping people from drawing their swords , it is a tradition to the era. Weapons were tied to show trust and that the weapons would not be used. It has nothing to do with securing them so they can not be draw. It also is a "think twice" for those that are drinking a little to much and want to "play" with their weapons. If you draw a weapon inside the faire you receive a verbal warning. If you stupid after that your escorted off the property. In all the years the faire has been open no one has been "run through" with a sword.
It's up to you guys if you want to go or not. Ive never let a gun policy dictate whether im going to have fun or not. If anyone has any question I'll be happy to answer them for you. Im easy to find at the faire. Im the yellow shirt security guy wearing the black kilt and combat boots.

Re: 2014 PA Renaissance Faire Carry
Do you have problem with that? Why are you asking?
As of the drinking alot argument - its bullshit. If people are drinking alot, and this factor is recognized, they should prohibit blades too, fuck the traditions of the era.
Im dandy with no OC there, mainly due to era mismatch, but no carry is BS. Did you have any prior problems with legitimate CCers there, as if they got too drunk, turned confrontational, stupid etc?Je suis déplorable

Been to the fair, the winery, and a concert there. I concealed carried each time without an issue.

Yeah, I know that you can conceal there and no one notice, and even if they would, they will merely ask you to leave it in the car. But I dont do that, since I know the premises are posted, hence for me personally, knowing that, it will be against the law to carry there. And its not cool in my book.

Re: 2014 PA Renaissance Faire Carry
No , i was just wondering who it was since the boss was talking about it on saturday. I dont give two shits if you or anyone calls them and complain. I think its funny actually that someone is complaining about not carrying a gun there. Its a renaissance faire. Its full of people playing dress up.
Lets see , knife versus gun in a drunk incident................ Id rather deal with the knife.
As the rules state " no firearms ". As a employee I have to enforce that rule. That is what I get paid for. As for my personal opinion........ I could care less if anyone cc'd. I dont deal with the drunks, that is what the armed security company is for. As for prior incidents of drunk gun problems , i have no clue. No incidents have occurred since I have been working there. Also no incidents of "sword or knife play " has occurred either.
Again , as has been discussed here since the dawn of the website. It is a private business. If people dont like the policies they dont have to go. I can guarantee the owner is not going to change his mind on it. He is a really nice guys and understands "most" of the people that frequent this kind of place do not want guns carried there. To kinda paraphrase Star Trek " The wants of the many out weigh the wants of the few , or the one" . Save your $29.50 and dont go if you dont want to. I personally wouldnt let a policy like " no guns " stop me from having fun.

Re: 2014 PA Renaissance Faire Carry
In all the years no one has been run through with a sword. Has anyone been shot?
Is it one person emailing about the no guns policy or several or more?
Not letting a policy on weapons spoil your fun is fine, others choose to always be prepared. Wether it's the Renn Fair or quick midnight trip to the corner grocery.
I don't challenge or debate private property owners on their policies. If they have a no carry policy I leave or don't go or reluctantly go unarmed. I think it's a good idea to say why I won't be though so they may reconsider and give more thought to the issue.
