Default What should I expect to pay?

I have a couple rifles that I would like to mount optics on. They have no mounts now.

How difficult is it to drill and tap some holes to add some Picatinny rail?
How much would you expect to pay? I'm not looking for a firm prices, but is this usually a $50 or $500 job?

Wink Re: What should I expect to pay?

using brownells shop price survey you are looking at 20 to 45 a hole for drill and tap and then another 35 to 50 for scope mounting. this does not include parts such as bases or rings. I am sure you can find it cheaper but keep in mind you do not want a rookie doing this work. just think of the ooops possibilities. good luck with your projects. red dog

What is this shop survey you speak of?
    Sounds like a good resource.

Can't you just attach a ring on the barrel? No holes to drill. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tactical-Bar...item1c3ac47359

I don't know how well that would hold a scope on a heavy recoil rifle.

    Not meant for a scope.

brownells catalog, center section by the index. whole page of costs by type of work. brownells does shop surveys on costs by job and comes up with these numbers. the spread is due to different prices depending on locality.

Not looking for a fight but this is the description-
    "Description:
    - Designed to install a Flashlight, Laser scope onto the tube(more than 12mm diameter)"

Perhaps this isn't the precise model needed for this scope but I was just trying to give a general alternative. It's cheap and should work. At least worth a try, in my view.

Would it hold a scope onto your gun? Maybe.
Would you need a very long eye relief scope? Probably.
Would you use a 3.00 mount to hold a 600.00 Leopuld scope onto your gun? I wouldn't.

As you said it is for a laser scope or as shown in the picture in the add for a laser. That laser is affixed to a scope.

Really? That's a clamp to hold a light or a laser as long as you don't care if it stays zeroed. It is NOT meant to be a mount for a scope by any stretch of the imagination.
