Re: We need to get the Philadelphia knife ordinance repealed.
They've successfully worked to have several states repeal all knife restrictions and enact state-wide knife pre-emption, keeping municipalities from enacting knife bans.
They've also been working to do the same here in PA. Obviously with the completely useless state legislature not wanting to even vote on any bills regarding knives or guns, they haven't had much success.
It also doesn't help that PA voters apparently are on cruise control when it comes to their belief that the Democratic party is the same party it was 50 years ago.

Re: We need to get the Philadelphia knife ordinance repealed.
At least one bill was filed (HB2548 in 2012) in the past with the help of KnifeRights:

Last action on it was that it was referred to judiciary. Is this where freedom-minded bills go to die in this state?Last edited by vinlander; August 2nd, 2014 at 11:15 PM.

Re: We need to get the Philadelphia knife ordinance repealed.
It came up in a recent thread where someone was headed to trial for possessing a knife in Philly.
Basically you can only have one if it's for work and you're actively working. So, if you're on your way to or from work with a knife you're breaking the law. Self defense or general cutting purposes are not acceptable reasons to have a knife in Philly. It seems they feel that an employer should provide knives and they should stay at your place of employment. It's basically a "full retard" law.
Of course, most of us seem to carry one anyways, which leads to the sentence, which is substantial.
NO LESS than $300 fine, and NO LESS than 90 days in jail.
For a summary offense.
The recent poster's case was dismissed, so no fine or jail. Pretty much got lucky as far as I could tell.
EDIT: Here's the official wording.
§10-820. Cutting Weapons in Public Places. [180]
(1) Definition.
Cutting Weapon. Any knife or other cutting instrument which can be used as a weapon that has a cutting edge similar to that of a knife. No tool or instrument commonly or ordinarily used in a trade, profession or calling shall be considered a cutting weapon while actually being used in the active exercise of that trade, profession or calling.
(2) Prohibited Conduct. No person shall use or possess any cutting weapon upon the public streets or upon any public property at any time.
(3) Penalty. The penalty for violation of this section shall be a fine of not less than three hundred (300) dollars and imprisonment of not less than ninety days.Last edited by bluetrane2028; August 3rd, 2014 at 01:21 PM.

Hmm...on any public property, so that means that which isn't privately owned, or that which is available to access by the public?

That law is beyond barbaric. I think it's time to eradicate Philly, I'd say just remove it from PA but the history there is pretty important for the freedom of this country. The people need to be removed otherwise they'll just keep making ignorant laws.
