    Default AR15 choice?

I am considering purchasing an AR15 and am a little curious as to others opinions about AR's. I'm not looking to buy a rifle with all the latest and greatest bells and whistles. I'm wanting to go a little old school. The rifle I want is the DPMS Panther Arms A2 Tactical. Carry handle receiver, full butt stock, A2 hand guards. Does anyone have any opinions or experience with this rifle? This is the RFA2C16L.

DPMS makes a pretty good rifle for the $$$. There are better options out there but you'll also spend more. It's a 1:9" so you may have better luck with the 55gr stuff but that's a moot point. The HBAR will tack on a few ounces but it'll also handle more heat if you plan on putting a lot downrange.

Of course these guns are like Lego's so whatever you don't like you can easily swap for what you do want.

I have the DPMS Oracle. Paid $499 + shipping (after $50 rebate). It has functioned 100% since day 1.

While PSA has some amazing deals for a good product, their shipping is horrible. I just built my AR with a Spikes lower from a LGS and a Spikes complete upper from joe bobs. All in all it totaled around $800. DPMS make good rifles, i just belive there are a few companies that do it better then them for very little more. BCM,Spikes,PSA, and even Windham.

I've had no issues with PSA's shipping. I like Colts ( I'm a pony whooooore) but I'll offer an alternative

Get a complete lower from PSA.

Get the upper from Bravo Company. The bottom has fell out of the market, they have Free BCGs and Comps with their uppers now for $439. ( the upper was $479, the BCG was $189 and the Comp was $90 just a few days ago )

That is a retarded deal. You are potentially retarded if you don't at least consider that !

    PSA complete lower

    $159 plus shipping/FFL

    http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-1...urg-mid-16.htm

BCM 16" mid upper with FREE BCG AND MOD 0 Gunfighter Comp

    $439 plus shipping

BCM Gunfighter Mod 4 Charging Handle $39

Get you handguards and sights used on the AR15 EE. $50 or so.

Get an H buffer for $30 if you want.

Game on. Buy cheap....assemble...stack deep. Shoot.

PSA is still having their normal issues. "In Stock" items that take over 2 weeks to ship, uppers taking over a month to get, practically non existent CS. Guy on another site ordered an upper 6/15 and nothing. Calls to CS don't get answered. At the height of the rush I can see it but not anymore.

It sounds like an OP wants an upper with an A2 receiver(carry handle). That narrows his choices down quite a bit. Model 1 sales, RRA, DPMS and few others sell A2 rifles and complete A2 uppers. Otherwise you have to build from scratch. The flat tops have taken over.

DKF is exactly right. I do want an A2 receiver with a carry handle. And he's also right that the flat tops have taken over. But I just want what I want. Maybe later I'll want to get one of those flat tops with all the bells and whistles but right now this is what I want. I am curious about the dissipator barrel and gas system. Anyone have any thoughts on that?
