Need advice on how to finish these wood grips.
Right now they are down to bare wood. I would probably use the wax but I ran into a situation when I used it on a checkered shotgun stock. I don't want a bright gloss but want to bring out the wood. Basically I want it to look how it does if its wet. The second pic is what I have on hand. Thanks, B .

Try a sample on the hidden side toward the frame and see which one meets your requirements. You may have to sand the back so it is the same smoothness as the outside as this would affect the outcome of the finish. Nice grips btw.

Fiebing's leather stain topped with coats of boiled linseed oil. Some pics of a rifle I have up for sale that was finished like that. http://forum.pafoa.org/firearms-6/25...8-45-colt.html
I've finished grips & a Ruger 10/22 that came out fantastic. It's my new favorite wood finish.

I have sweaty hands, so I would go with Polyurethane. I did however like the finish shellwax gave to pens when I did those..

Hmmm, I don't like the feel of any poly when it comes to sweaty palms. I'd go for a rubbed oil finish over whatever stain you like (I like walnut).

Tung oil applied with light coats and rubbed to your taste. It's easily fixed if a scratch should happen. I don't think any stain would be required judging by the pictures. Stain would only conceal that natural beauty hidden in the grain which will be magnified by the oil finish. Several coats of BLO will do the same but it just takes longer.

Mineral oil, you can get it at the drug store. Just soak it in and wipe off the excess. This is probably my favorite finish. It doesn't smell it wont be sticky or greasy after you wipe it down and its food safe too. It will look just like water on the grips.
