Re: Decent fishing spots?
Do you have a boat? If you have a boat, it's a lot of fun trolling for white perch in Lake Marburg. There are a lot of them in there and I can tell you how to catch them. It's fun for kids because every time you troll over a school, you get hits. I asked my buddy how many he wanted and he jokingly said, "25" so I took him out and headed back when we got to 25.

Re: Decent fishing spots?
Yes, you can typically get them in the 10" - 11" range and fillet. They are an invasive species and are delicious filleted and dredged in some Shore Lunch.
To catch them, get yourself a fish finder. In the summer, head out around the big island or the deep part of the sailboat cove. You can typically find them at 25 - 30ft deep. Use a crawler harness with pieces of nightcrawler. I use 1 to 2 oz bottom bouncers. I start in one end of the cove that is about 30ft deep and drop my line to the bottom. Give it a couple turns and slowly troll across the school at about 1 mph or less. You will feel them hit.
I have caught a few on some really small spinners and cranks but for the most part, the crawler harness is money. One day I set up 4 poles across the back of my boat and it was sort of funny to watch them all bounce. If you do that, I suggest adding a stinger (small treble hook) to the end of the harness because those little guys can pluck a worm off the hook rather quickly.
2 yrs ago, my son and I sat in a 10ft jon and threw our harnesses out and reeled them back slowly. We had a 5 gallon bucket of ice. In 1.5 hrs, we filled it with 33 of them and had to stop."The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."

Re: Decent fishing spots?
I'll second that but make sure you enter the side off Alpine Road, not the "main" entrance on Lewisberry Road. That's the busy side and hardly anyone speaks English over there. The "other" side of the lake that took me a while to figure out how to get to is never crowded and has better spots for fishing. Turn onto Alpine Road at the "Bob's Equipment" billboard on the right on Rt 74, after about a mile look for a sign that says "Conewago Day Use Area".
If you go to the busy side you'll be in the middle of a Mexican BBQ Fiesta or on Sundays, a Chinese church holds a service.
Lake Redman and Lake Marburg in Codorus State Park in Hanover are also good choices.

Re: Decent fishing spots?
in lake redman the area under the I-83 bridge is good for perch and kroppie at about 20 feet depth IIRC. just set a sinker weight on the end of your line and rig your bait 3' above the weight and stop letting out line when you feel it hit bottom. pull up fish as fast as you can reel. canoe from east side parking area is easiest approach. best not on a windy day.

Re: Decent fishing spots?
I'm planning on going to Lake Redman tomorrow for some fishing, the website says all the parks open at 8am, does that mean you can't launch until the park opens?

Re: Decent fishing spots?
Going into the main boat lunch area there is a sign that says closed dusk to dawn, I asked a park ranger about this because I wanted to launch my boat and night fish, I always saw people fishing out there at night from boats and the shore. He told me that you couldn't be at the pavilions, horse shoe pits or anything like that bit you are allowed to fish 24/7
I always see people there bow fishing so they are discharging a bow and no one seems to care. I always Oc or cc there while I fish and never had a problem. The county parks dept also controls the Rail Trail which is a bicycle trail that runs along railroad tracks, that had signs up that said "no firearms" but after I complained the signs were removed
