Default Want to start the process on my first SBR-Colt 6933?

After shooting a friends SBR this weekend I realize its time to take the plunge. What I really want is a colt 6933 with the 11.5" barrel.

Since I already own a 6920, can I just register that lower and buy a 6933 upper to put on it after the form 1 gets approved? Since I already own the Colt lower do I still have to get it engraved?

Which is the best, quickest, and most cost effective option: the option listed above or just buying a stock 6933 on a form 4? Wouldn't it take longer if I was doing the form 4 because it has to go from one dealer to another hence form 3 approval and extra transfer fees? This is all new to me and I have a lot of questions so any help is appreciated.

Also, anyone have a suggestion or experience on where to buy the 6933 upper?

    Thanks Everyone

Personally, i would register your existing lower. That would be the fastest way unless you find and in-state SOT with the SBR you want and and deal with them. But you will need to physically pick it up at their location once approved.

Yes, you still need to engrave your Firstname Lastname, City, State if you manufacture with your existing rifle

File your Form1 with prints/photos/sign-offs/$200 check
While waiting, start sourcing an upper. You will have an easy 9-10 months before you are approved.

Thanks Nate, I appreciate your feedback.

So your answer confirms what I thought was true then. I emailed my local chief of police to see if he will sign off so I don't get the process started for nothing.

Do I have to wait to buy the upper until I get the form 1 approved?

Do I have to have the engraving done before I send in the Form 1?

Your sig line says you are an SOT so do you carry the Colt 6933?
    Thanks,
    Steve

No, you can buy it when ever you find one. You prob want to get a second stripped lower so you are not in constructive possession of a short upper.
Or just store it at a friends house until approved.

I think thats a better idea, so everything is done/spelled correctly before you send your paperwork. but it can be done while waiting.

No we do not, sorry. Check at Clyde Armory and Ratworx
    Thanks,

May have a local lead on this. Theres a thread on page two or three regarding someone on this side of the state within driving distance.

Got my 2x2 pictures done last night, getting fingerprinted tomorrow. Things are moving along. Waiting on call back from potential engraver. What is the current wait time for a form 1 approval? 10 months or more?
