Moving from PA to NJ, what's last chance to buy gun in PA?
My Brother-In-Law is moving from PA back to NJ (stupid, I know, but anyway). What is the last point that he can legally buy a gun still in PA? When the house in PA is sold, the closing date, or is there a +/- X# of days, or any ideas?

I'm guessing it's when your driver liceance is switched. Obviously should be the day you move. Warning. I'm formerly from nj and a good friend who was a lawyer there (he now lives here in pa). Has informed me that I do not take any firearms to nj without having a nj firearms ID card. Basicly if you live there you have to have at least that card, if your visiting you have to have a nj issued non resisdent firearms I'd card just to visit and stay in the state. No carry! He may also have to apply for a hand gun permit for each gun. Depending on the town that can take 2 weeks to 90 days. Or more. 90 days is the law that it must be decided on, but I personal know people who have wait 12 months to be approved.

Depends what he wants to buy. Springfield XDM is off the list and must be 15 rounds or less. Also, if Christie does not veto the 10 round limit then what does he do with his old mags or guns? Hollow points? Can transport them there.
I'm not a lawyer but he's still a PA resident unless he declares he's a NJ resident or when he makes settlement on his house but I'm sure there's more to it.
Can he commute? NJ income tax can be upwards of 9%, and car insurance can be doubled. Please talk him out of it! I moved here in 2012 and saving 6% per year in income tax alone....that's huge."I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery." Thomas Jefferson

If he's moving back to NJ, he doesn't deserve any firearms

He must be tired of being free. He's moving to NJ and likes gun? Good luck with that.

living in NJ(not by choice its where i got stationed) if you owned the weapon prior to coming to NJ and its legal in NJ for example handguns with 15 rounds or less. you can have it here, to go to the range or have it in your house you don't need the ID card. that is used to buy ammo and long guns, the pistol permits are used to buy a pistol.

Incorrect. . . . . Love the story to back it up. . . . . . Well I done my own home work and found this on the nj state police page. Q10.
I have moved to New Jersey from another state. May I continue to possess my firearm(s)?
A10.
Firearms which have been legally acquired in another state and are legal to possess in New Jersey may be brought to New Jersey by the owner when residency is established. The owner may VOLUNTARILY register the firearm(s) by completing a Voluntary Form of Firearms Registration, however the owner is not obligated to do so.
Now as per a pa resident visiting nj. I stick with my lawyer friend that you need a non resident id card. Witch I here will take to days out of your life cause you have to make an appointment to do soo.NRA Endowment Member, N-SSA #9526v
