Barack Obama celebrated Father's Day by calling on black fathers, who he said are "missing from too many lives and too many homes," to become active in raising their children.

"They have abandoned their responsibilities, acting like boys instead of men. And the foundations of our families are weaker because of it," the Democratic presidential candidate said Sunday at a largely black church in his hometown.

For once, he's impressed me. The black community has crucified more than one of their own (Bill Cosby most notably) that has stated this simple truth.

That might just be the first thing the man has said that I agree with.

I aplaude him for saying it, but I can't help but think he said it just to get votes.

I highly doubt that's enough of a statement to get anyone to change their overall opinion of him and therefore change their vote.

Mostly people will see it for what it is.... meaningless words. Until you can get the "black fathers" to change, nothing else will.

The first time Bill Cosby said something similar he was condemned for his opinion. Even Juan Williams (Big Lib) of Fox News and NPR in his latest book is saying the same thing.
