    Default Gun transfer question

My uncle bought a gun in Florida and sold it to my father. My dad is giving me the handgun. Do I need to register the gun in Pennsylvania? How do I transfer ownership? I do have a concealed carry permit in Pennsylvania.

Transfer has to go through a FFL here in PA. Your dad can fedex/ups it to a local FFL of your choosing or your FFL may require it to be sent from a FFL in Florida.

If you both lived in the same state, your dad could just give it to you and no paperwork would be required.

Thank you, so just to be clear. He can go into a Fed Ex in florida and mail it to a say Gander Mountain and I can go there and pick it up?

Would he need to fly up here to sign paperwork?

Yes, but before your dad ships it to the PA FFL like Gander Mountain, make sure the PA FFL accepts firearms from non-FFL's. While legal to do so, not all FFL's do this.

Your dad simply needs to include a copy of his FL driver license.

Don't use gander mountain, They charge $70 for the transfer. A local gun shop will only charge about $30.

Technically the "registry" doesn't exist, at least after 72 hours have passed, according to the PA State Police. So your question is sort of hard to answer. Transferring ownership of a firearm at an FFL is certainly necessary and must b done between two parties, however the PSP is supposed to destroy the information within 3 days.

Whether or not they really do, no idea.
