    Default Soc.# on LTCF form

    Hello all,
This is my first post. I recently got my LTCF. When I was filling out the form, it said that putting your Social Security Number on the form was,"Optional, but will help prevent misidentification"; see here. Since it was optional, and since the gov't lost all of those GI's Soc#'s I figured that I would leave it off. When I took my form to the Sheriff's office and they started inputting my info, they said that they couldn't bypass it in the computer, that it had to be entered. I asked why the form indicated that it was optional but they just said that it shouldn't say that or that the form needs to be updated. I begrudgingly put my soc# on the form.

What do you all think of putting your Soc# on the LTCF form?

I never do, and I've never had a problem. Anyone that tells you you must include it is, to be polite, misinformed.

It is flat out illegal for them to require/force you to put the # on the form.

    ref: 5 U.S.C. § 552a

File a complaint with the DA.

Boyer's in Slatington is pulling the same garbage. They refuse to call in to the State Police when purchasing a firearm unless you put in SS#

Tell them they are in direct violation of the U.S. Federal Privacy Act, that they are risk of losing their license if they continue to ignore the law, and that you're taking your complaint to the attorney general, and your money to another dealer.

Pa Patriot has the statute listed above, here's an article about the Federal court ruling stating it cannot be required.

    Judge rejects Pa. gun-buying terms

Requiring prospective owners to provide their Social Security numbers violates the U.S. Privacy Act, the judge ruled.

Pennsylvania's requirement that buyers provide a Social Security number to purchase a gun or obtain a concealed-weapons permit was struck down yesterday by a federal judge.

The state law violated the federal Privacy Act, U.S. District Judge Juan R. Sanchez ruled.

"This issue has been largely overlooked in Pennsylvania and other states for a long time," said lawyer J. Dwight Yoder, who brought the case on behalf of a retired U.S. Army officer from Lancaster. "This ruling is about privacy, not guns. We weren't looking to circumvent gun laws."

I purchased my first pistol at the Army Navy in Whitehall the other week. The paperwork that I filled out had the same block for SSN that said it was optional. I left it blank and didn't have any problems.

How are the prices there? I never shopped for guns there but thought the gear prices were reasonable.

Did you list the SS the first time you got your carry permit? If so, I would think that when you reapplied they already have it.

I don't know much about gun prices, I was getting my first that day. I had looked it up online and the price in the store was about $20 less than what it was listed online.
