The Agony of the Liberal Gun Lover
Shunned by peers and bummed by the NRA: What it’s like to be left-leaning and gun-toting in America.
•
Sara Robinson of Seattle, Washington, is chatty, affable, and obviously liberal. For years the former writer for Alternet has been a member of a tight-knit community of activists who write and organize around progressive causes. Or at least she was a member, until her “tribe,” as she calls it, effectively banished her in the wake of the December 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting. “I was forced out,” she says.
Robinson, a registered Democrat since the Reagan era, is also a life-long gun owner. And almost as soon as news of the massacre broke, her relationship with her left-leaning circle began to fall apart over the issue of firearms.
Interesting article. It seems as though Sara Robinson's eyes have been opened to the hypocrisy of the liberal left. "Be yourself, but only if we agree."

Re: The Agony of the Liberal Gun Lover
The tranny machinist is correct:
“Changing whether someone has to wait 10 days or 11, or a magazine that holds 10 rounds or 11 has no impact on who’s going to get shot in West Oakland tomorrow. Giving people equality of education and opportunity, proper medical care, not isolating people in food deserts where basic nutrition is nearly impossible and groceries are limited to corner liquor stores—changes in gun laws aren’t going to impact any of that. It’s a sideshow, an excuse for not doing any of the things we know will actually make shit better.”

I would fall into this group, for the most part.

I think most people fall into this "reasonable" crowd. It's those who are blindly spouting without true thought are the loudest and get the most attention.
"Governments... derive their just powers from the consent of the governed."

Re: The Agony of the Liberal Gun Lover
Good article, and one in which I find a lot of my own experience.
I'm a member of the Liberal Gun Club, btw, and everyone should check out its forum to see the variety of really interesting viewpoints.
I also want to add, before I get jumped on, that when I use the term liberal I use it in its original and traditional sense: that is, one who believes in individual freedom, representative government, that certain rights are inalienable and that the goal of social and economic institutions should be to allow the maximization of an individual's potential.

Re: The Agony of the Liberal Gun Lover
“I think the uptick in vitriol from the far right has driven people toward us,” says Mark Roberts, the founder of the Liberal Gun Club. “People recognize us as an alternative to the NRA. They’ve felt ostracized by not thinking that Obama is an ‘evil, islamo-fascist who’s going to take their guns.’”
Say what? Fucking moron. Who wants to take your guns if not Obama? I guess nobody. No wonder your liberal friends dumped you, you're actually much stupider than they are.

Its part of the liberal definition of "tolerance". Agree with me as evidenced by the fact that you do as I say and I'll tolerate your right to do this.

Re: The Agony of the Liberal Gun Lover
I think its what the definition of the term "liberal" has come to imply. I firmly believe that those whom define themselves as classical liberalists are truly leaning more tward a social libertarian mindset, where the governments role is that of a watchful gaurdian of personal liberty as well as a provider of services that help people overcome adversity. Not what the socialist democrats and their captive voter welfare base are espousing .
Funny how the democrats steadfast allies the unions are bashing the party it helps keep in power over Obamacare. I also think that if more people knew more about the two party system, Libertarian philosophy and how our government subverts the constitution at every turn there would not be so many democrats. it goes for republicans too. I dont like a government that has the power to tell me what I can or cannot do with my own body, take my proprerty in the name of eminent domain, bail out banks because the institutions hold the retirement accounts of the elected eliteLast edited by bigandy1966; June 12th, 2014 at 04:26 PM.

Re: The Agony of the Liberal Gun Lover
Pfff Liberal gun owner
You cannot be a progressive liberal and support the 2A no matter how they want to package it. Ultimately you will be supporting candidates and causes that view the 2A as an obstacle. A democratic gun owner will eventually give their gun rights away one way or another whether they want to admit it or not.
The way this lady is being treated by her peers should prove that the rest of the agendas she supports are being run by the same ruthless people. She wants it both ways. She wants the freedom to defend herself while supporting issues that grow government and control over our lives.
As a liberal, I tend to look toward deeper problems, not the guns, but the problems people have that makes them turn to guns.”
If anything reading this article just proves why liberals are completely insane.
They don't know what they want.FUCK BIDEN
