Outdoor options besides ranges and competitions?
Greetings. Moved here from AZ a while back and want to get back in to shooting.
I live in Kennedy TWP. While I know that there are ranges/ clubs as well as formal competitions, is there any place else to shoot out in the wilderness? Most ranges that I've been to/ read about are fairly static/ boring with silly rules, and I don't have the time to get into competition. Looking to do some timed drills out in the woods somewhere. My bro in law lives in Brighton TWP so any place in between us would be great. Ive done some reading on target shooting laws and it seems that its illegal, but I thought Id ask.
Thanks!

Re: Outdoor options besides ranges and competitions?
The main option is to buy your own land, you can do whatever you want then.
When it comes down to it, competition isn't going to involve much more time than trying to find a place in the woods where you can shoot.
A lot of ranges frown on tactical ninja stuff, which is understandable for the liability, but there are some clubs that have areas for that.
I don't know what the laws are in regards to state land. It's not something I ever needed to do since I have my own range.
But my suggestion to you is any place you find "in the woods" you better determine who owns it. You come on private property and launch 500 rounds of 5.56 and you might have some problems.
Unfortunately this isn't like Arizona and the west with large tracts of land with no civilization nearby. That is one advantage to the west.

Sorry, just being a wise-ass. It's customary to do your shooting out of moving cars in those hoods.
Aside from private land with the owner's permission, there's really no place to shoot except formal ranges.
