    Default LTCF Renewal Northampton County

My LTCF expires on 6/15. I still haven't received a renewal letter in the mail. I was planning on printing the form out and going there anyway but I thought I would have received something by now.

Your letter should come by the 15th.

I had an opportunity a few weeks ago to talk with the deputy in charge of the LTCF unit. First, there are no renewals. Each application is treated as a new LTCF. You should print and submit the application when you get the opportunity.

I also was able to provide him with statute to support 45 calender days versus 45 business days which is what they were working to. So the response time should be improving.

I did not get my reminder letter in the mail either. It took 59 days to get my ltcf.

Guess you file early (45 days prior to expiration?) and hope they don't get right on it and you get cheated out of 1/12 of the previous license.

Good to know. When you went there a few weeks ago were you carrying? I went a while back for something and when I got up to the metal detectors I let the officers know I had a firearm and wanted to check it. There was an older officer there, very old, that absolutely flipped out. He asked me if I was an officer to which I replied no, then asked if I was part of some alphabet agencies to which I also replied no. Then he started yelling at me about bringing a firearm into a courthouse. He told me to leave it in my car and I told him there was no way that was going to happen. I explained to him by law they were to provide a place for me to check in and lock up my firearm. He told me that I was wrong, continued yelling at me for bringing a gun in the courthouse and telling me I needed to leave it in my car if I wanted to come in and do business in the courthouse. 2 younger officers stood by and said and did nothing. I was with my daughter who I think was 3 at the time and decided I would just leave and not put her through any more that may have went on. Every time we drive by there now she says to me "that's the building where the policeman yelled at you right daddy." Great. More than likely when I do go she will be with me and I don't want to go through that again with her around. So......can I check my firearm there without being made to feel like a criminal?

I was actually at a meeting sponsored by Rep Julie Harhart.

Did you happen to get the name of the deputy?

The policy is as I know it is that you go in notify them that you have a firearm to check. They have you wait outside then contact a supervisor. The supervisor will bring a case out for you to put the firearm in. You are then escorted to the locker area.

Send me a PM with more details, and I will make contact with the Deputy I worked with.

That's how it works. You go inside and tell them you need to check a firearm. They send you outside to wait for another guard to escort you back in. No problem. They gave me none.

I went today to renew my LTCF. Everything went off without a hitch. Went in, let them know I had to check a firearm, waited outside til an officer came, he took my info, i gave him my firearm and extra mag, i got a recipt and away I went to take care of business. I was not taken to a locker room, but my gun was put in a case outside with my extra mag, holster and LTCF. When I was ready to leave the process was just reversed. Everyone I dealt with was very professional, courteous and a pleasure to deal with. At no point did I feel uncomfortable or like an inconvenience. The only thing, if you are one of those people that gets agitated about the use of the word "clip" or "carry permit" you're not gonna have a good time.

Why in the world do people insist on making life difficult for themselves?

Some counties: The lock boxes are right at the entrance. You put your stuff in the box, take the key, then get scanned.

Indiana County: You stop at the front desk, show your license, hand over the firearm, get a plastic chit, then go and get scanned.

Northampton County: Inside, outside, deputies running hither and yon.

What you need is about three people to go in, about three minutes apart, each checking in a firearm. Wait ten minutes or so, then leave, again three minutes apart.
