Default Revolver question from a 1911 guy

I have in my possession a 1974 Virginian Dragoon .44 Mag. w/ 7 1/2" barrel. It had lost the one little screw in front of the trigger screw. I located a new one and just installed said screw. Everything seems to operate properly now.

What are the two little dots on the cylinder? One being red and the other being black (I think)? Both are centered at the end of a flute. Anyone have a clue?

The single action revolvers hammer is traditionally carried on an empty cylinder. The dimples are simply there to help you identify the empty one.

In the tradition of carrying a single action revolver with an empty chamber under the hammer, these dots were placed there as an aid in accomplishing this.
