FLA man shot dead while confronting car thieves in driveway
Obviously, Option A, confronting (presumably while unarmed) two men attempting to steal your car from your driveway at 1:30am was not a viable option in this case. Option B, confronting guns-ablazing would have been better than Option A though possibly with the same outcome or else incurring some potential liability. Option C, calling and waiting for the cops who may or may not arrive in time may have been the best option as worst outcome is losing a replaceable vehicle instead of your life.
I must say though, if I saw someone messing with my car in my driveway in my relatively low-crime suburban neighborhood, my initial instinct may have also been "Hey, who is that f'ing with my car?" and running out and confronting too, so I understand this poor guy's deadly decision. Thoughts?

Re: FLA man shot dead while confronting car thieves in driveway
Don't stand in the doorway of your home, back lite by interior lighting, or walk in front of the big ass picture window, back lite like a big ass glow bug about to be whacked by a kid and a wiffle ball bat. Don't act like "Get off my Lawn" without the appropriate meanness to back it up and an M-1...just saying.
No, I don't know the specifics of the case but I could just well imagine that this man did one or all of these things and he paid for it with his life. If you gonna be Dirty Harry, well, then be Dirty Harry!

Re: FLA man shot dead while confronting car thieves in driveway
Option A is out of the question. Assume worst case scenario; everyone's armed. Option B, probably not; it would piss me off highly but insurance will replace the car. Option C, call the cops, is best here. No lives are in danger, car is replaceable, and let the cops do their job. Now if they decide that's not enough for them, and they make a move towards my house, all bets are off...

I don't like any of those options. How about option D, confront them with gun at the ready in a tactically sound manner.
Option C is off the table for me, I only call the police to take a report for the insurance or the courts.

Reports say his home was burglarized earlier in May. Would have confronted them with shotgun and .45 in my holster.

Did he make a good choice? No, but I don't know about you but a great many of us actually like our property, worked hard for it and detest those that take it as bad as those who say roll over and take it in the ass nothing is worth protecting. My hope is that the scumbags die slow and painful.

THIS.
What little I got, I worked hard for. No damn way I let them walk off with it. Without a car, I cant work, without work I cant feed my family. Dont know about you, but a used car doesnt get allot from Insurance.
As to no car worth dying over, absolutely right. I would have approached them armed and if they pressed the issue; well, they put themselves in that situation.Hold the Line...
