7.62x54R deal
Hey,
If anyone's interested, Ammoman.com has got Olympic 180gr. FMJBT ammo for $89/200 rounds
The deal's good enough to remind me of the good old days, when I only paid $6.00 for a box of the same ammo.
The good about this stuff:
Non-Corrosive
Brass Cased
Fairly accurate (2" Group at 100 yards from my M44, rested...which I'd expect is more the fault of the shooter than the ammo. If I can do 2" at 100, someone who knows how to shoot well in spite of the trigger on the Nagant can probably cut the group to half that, or less. )
The Bad, for all you reloaders out there:
Berdan primed.
Mine's on its way to my rifle (back in Texas), but I'll be posting details about delivery and such as I get them.

Re: 7.62x54R deal
I don't like the Olympic ammo for 7.62x54. It jams, splits and does not work and well as others. It's not that I got a bad box or a bad lot. I've seen others try to use it and have trouble. I will not buy it or use it.

Re: 7.62x54R deal
Huh, that's weird. I've never had a problem with it so far, in either of my Nagants.
Sorry to hear that you did.
Ok, well I'll keep posting deals as I find them, if anyone's interested.

Re: 7.62x54R deal
I've never been able to use it in my 4 Nagants. I've only used the gold box reloadable Olympic and you say what you have is non-reloadable. It may not be the same type of ammo from the same company. But I don't trust Olympic ammo. I've had my best luck with Winchester that I got from Midway.

Re: 7.62x54R deal
It's not necessarily impossible to reload, it's just that the berdan primers make it more difficult to reload.
You can reload a berdan-primed round by removing the old primer through the two holes in the case, but if you screw up and deform the anvil, you may as well throw out the case, or find a way to bore a hole for a traditional primer.
Ah, well. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

Re: 7.62x54R deal
Perhaps I am mistaken but my dealer told me he has 7.62x54r for $5.50 for a box of 20 rounds. I didn't see it, but when I called him to ask the price of the ammo for the m44 I was looking at, that what I think he told me.

Special? Not as I understand the term- it's just cheaper than I've been able to find 7.62x54R in the Pittsburgh area.
