Operation: Open Carry On Memorial Day
I feel the real purpose of memorial day is neglected, and I fear the pain, and suffering from those who served to fight for our country's rights, and liberties goes to waste every Memorial Day holiday as nobody I associate with ever mentions such things about it. I'd like to help support our rights, and liberties, and honor our fallen troops by open carrying on Memorial Day, because many of our troops were carrying guns while paying the price for the lessons we patriots have today, and also more often after that. I can't think of a better way to kill 2 birds with one stone. I hope others thinking about open carrying will join me.
On the other hand I do not want to get arrested, and cause unnecessary stress. I know I can't prevent a false arrest even with all the knowledge in the world. Therefore I need to know all the nitty gritty, and try to be as best prepared for the unpleasantness that may come along with open carrying. I'll be using the Open carry and what you should know before you do it as my reference, and basically go threw the list overlooking what I get, and stopping on topics that cause confusion.
Below here is that list:
1.) A good retention holster. (check)
2.) A voice recorder.
Do I seriously need to buy a voice recorder? Does everyone here do this?
3.) This flyer. Print off a few, carry them with you, and make sure you understand the content. This is one of the best resources you will find. It has good case law references and a wealth of information. LEARN IT, KNOW IT, LIVE IT!
The hyperlink brings me to a page the reads the following: Server Down! Can anyone provide that flyer?
4.) Your LTCF. (check) It allows you to carry in a Gun Free School Zone.
But only within 1000 feet of a school. Correct?
5.) The 2009 MPOETC update pages that relate to OC. Print this and ALWAYS carry it with you when you OC. As lil'dobe pointed out in another thread, it is pretty hard for a cop to tell you it is illegal to OC when his own training manual is put under his nose. Reserve the Gun rights flyers for curious people.(Thanks lil'dobe!) Another suggestion is to remember that if a cop asks where you got this from, you should say it was obtained from the PSP's Right to Know unit. It is the truth and sounds better than, "Duh, I got it off the internets...".(Again, thanks dobe )
Practice with both 1 and 2 until you are comfortable with their operation. Read and understand 3..thoroughly.
Does this supersede # 3?

If you are "killing two birds with one stone" you do not understand Memorial Day.

Re: Operation: Open Carry On Memorial Day
I would not organize an OPEN carry day for memorial day. I think that day should be only for honoring our Vets. I agree the 4th of July would be a better day to do this.

Re: Operation: Open Carry On Memorial Day
I OC just about every day so Memorial Day won't be any different.
Without veterans, we might not be able to carry, PERIOD.MikeP
