If my son ever comes home with a book like that the school will get it back with a request for a book that does not contain religion. If you can't talk about christians then you shouldn't talk about them either.

It's funny that kids can be taught about the Spanish Inquisition and events like that from history, but to learn something current that might help educate them as to why policies like negotiating with extremists aren't reasonable, is unrealistic. Throughout history there has been a "dark side" to all forms of organized religion and Islam is no different. It's a real world lesson to educate them on how something beneficial to so many like religion can be bastardized by people who want to use their interpretation for doing harm. It's censorship, plain and simple, by omission of relevant information.

What in the hell ever happened to separation of church and state? Islam is a religion there for teaching anything about it would a direct violation of church and state. You can't have you cake and eat it to, the Islamics pushed to have God taken out of schools as it was unfair to the Muslims students. But it is now some how fair to force the Christian students to learn about Islam. I got news for you if my daughter ends up having to take such a course it will be the first and only time that I will be proud of her if she fails it.
