Default Decided on a 1911 project, I think I might have lost my mind.

I like steel guns. Most Glocklike firearms and I do not get along. I do have 2 polymers in the stable but this is about a 1911.

I have a dream! I have a dream that one day 18+1 rounds of 38 super can live in a double stack 1911 (2011).

OK no big deal so far, there are a few off the shelf options.

My dream also lives in a commander sized platform

So wide body reciever, commander slide, 38 super barrel. Any thoughts on this bugger?

    So, a ParaOrdinance then?

Perhaps not an off the shelf item, but I'm sure it could be done with the right amount of $$$ or time and tools.

Oh, I'm pretty it can certainly be done. Add a Grams follower and a trick basepad to a STI VIP in 9mm and then hone it out to Super. .38 TJ would actually be a better option for carry...or even 9x23.

"Shorty" open guns were all the rage a couple years back, Brazos and Bedell come immediately to mind. The platform has to be available for them to customize, but I must admit I've not personally seen a commander length 2011 that wasn't an open gun (comp, dot, etc.).

You can already get 18+1 in 38 super, 9x23, 9x21, and/or 9x19(Luger/Para) flavors from a varying number of manufacturers - some models are no longer in production, some still are. Armscor, Charles Daly(old models), Para Ord, etc

Armscor had a nice 38 super 18+1 1911 for a while. And that was with a factory mag, one of the after market companies made a flush fit 19+1 or 20+1 mag. It had target sights and a parkerized finish.

There was one at the Dry Tavern Tru-value hardware store in Greene County for about $389 about 18 months ago..
