Confused. S&W SD40VE
There seems to be at least 3 of these things.
Model 123400: Action; Double Action Only .40SW
Model 223400SDT- Self Defense Trigger for optimal consistent pull first round to last. Striker fired action
Model 123402 SDT- Self Defense Trigger for optimal consistent pull first round to last. Striker fired action. Double Action
My question. Are they all double action, and their "Self Defense Trigger" just hype? Also, are they any good?Last edited by djpup; April 22nd, 2014 at 11:32 PM. Reason: All .40 S&W

Re: Confused. S&W SD40VE
The two later ones were produced to address complaints about the trigger being sloppy, too long of a pull, etc. They are all double action only.
As to are they any good, I personally wouldn't buy one. Too many horror stories related to them being junk. I had two friends who had to have the barrel replaced after ~5k rounds whereas my XD subcompact has over 125,000 rounds through it.
Night stand gun and EDC, sure why not. Target gun, far from it.
Just my $0.02Stay armed my friends.

Re: Confused. S&W SD40VE
The local gun shop in our area refuses to take them in trades.
He said they will sit there for ever and he will never recover his money.
I know nothing about them but what I have heard.
But, when the local gun dealer refuses them, I listen.
Just some thoughts.
God bless!!

You are absolutely right.
It is the Sigma with the bad reputation.
DClan - Good catch!

Re: Confused. S&W SD40VE
My wife has an SD40VE. Had some problems with it early on where it wouldn't go fully into battery. When that happened the slide was locked up, couldn't be pulled back at all. (only with GREAT effort) Sent it into S&W for warranty repair. They put a new barrel on it. Seems that there was an issue where the barrel would get wedged in the bottom of the slide as it went forward. Since she got it back there's been zero issues with it. I did add a Apex Tactical trigger kit to it just to lighten the trigger pull on it for her.

Re: Confused. S&W SD40VE
The price seems reasonable. Low/Mid $300 NIB and $100 less used.

Re: Confused. S&W SD40VE
I had a lot of guns and a sigma was one that was a love hate firearm. I never had a problem with mine but I traded it off, but I been tossing around the idea of getting a SD version of the sigma
