How did you find it? You heard the shot then later saw the window blown out?

May be it is the guy who was asking how to build a range in his backyard for his 308. He got real upset when I said it is a dumb idea.

Can you 'rod' it or determine angle of incident or find it through the angular difference between the outer aluminum part and the inner wooden one?

If the bullet can be identified by caliber and type somehow, then you would have a more complete ballistic picture of where it may have originated from.

Do you recall hearing the shot? Was it lots of shots, or just one? Do you hear gunfire frequently at your house? Are you bordering gamelands or a farm or any kind of land that would be hunted?

It seems to me, without fully knowing what kind of door you have, that this was either a very long shot and the bullet had lost nearly all of its energy, or it was a very weak-powered shot, say, from a .22 or a handgun. Most guns at ordinary ranges would easily penetrate both sides of an aluminum and plywood door, unless your door is more substantial than I am envisioning.
