    Default Saiga 12 Conversion

Well, after watching the YouTube videos 25 times, I finally ordered the conversion kit from Carolina Shooters Supply tonight. Went back and forth about an internal or external (which I already have) receiver block for the stock. Decided to stay with external for now. Don't have to cut off rear tang. Can always change if I do not like. Wish me luck.

Its jot that bad. Be prepared for nothjng to be drop in. Mine wasnt. Hardest part was the trigger spring windings for me. I cut the rear tang though.

The "drop in" parts are almost never going to be drop in on anything AK. They will get you close, but its not going to be like assembling an AR.

Did you get a retainer plate? Or did you go with the L wire? If the bolt hold open isn't already modified to go in after the saftey you need to do that. A notch for the bolt hold open spring is a wonderful thing too.

The hammer legs will be the right length but the face might still need some polish depending on how tight your gun was from the factory. Compare to the factory hammer to see. If you do take some off, don't get nutts check your fit often.

I cut the tang off one and went with the internal ACE block. Left the tang on another one, its all depending on what you want for the stock.

I ordered the retainer plate and the modified bolt catch.
I already have an external block with a folding stock. Should still be able to use it minus the pistol grip.

Here is my almost complete Saiga 12 conversion.
Awaiting internal receiver block to attach folding stock.

Did not like look of external block.
Plus, internal block uses old trigger pin holes to secure to receiver. Don't have to use the nylon plugs.

Oh the plugs aren't that bad. I used Alumahyde over mine and unless I make it a point to show people the plugs are not noticed.

I like the internal blocks myself because of the cleaner look.

When I convert my Saiga .308, thinking of using the external block. Seems like the easier route than trying to stabilize an internal block given the lack of old trigger pin holes.
