Default $1000 to spend on a firearm

I figure I'll hit my savings mark of $1,000 in June. So, my research on what to buy begins.

I'm just looking for random ideas.

If you had $1,000 to spend on a gun, what would you buy?

$1000 will get you nicely into a 1911 or AR... Fun!

Or buy a $500 gun and $500 worth of ammo

Depends what you are into, Rifles? Handgun?, new, old?

Me, I would buy a nice original surplus rifle that would only increase in value.
I am looking for another M39 but I want a really nice tiger striped stock.

I specifically didn't want to narrow it down. If I did, I'd eliminate possibly suggestions.

I'm just looking for ideas...something I may not have even thought about researching. I know my goto platforms, calibers, etcetera. For example, my collection lacks an AK, but do I want to add one or maybe add something else?

This question was more an exercise in getting some outside the box (at least my box) ideas.

As for your suggestion, I already own a 6920, but the 629 or the Remington are exactly the "random" suggestions I was wanting.

    Thanks.

    Hmmm...an M39.

    I don't have a Mosin, yet.

I just ordered a new production Dan Wesson 715 revolver. Been a collector of them for a long time and missed the last run of 2500 in 2012. That's we're my last 1k went.

I've really been wanting a lever gun lately. If I had 1k to spend, I would probably go that route. Any extra would go to ammo. Haven't narrowed it down exactly because it would be too painful to know what I want and having no hope of affording it.

PTR-91 would be my random suggestion.
