I just don't care for the 1911...
There...I said it! I like the .45acp round but I have had a Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II for about a year now and have never felt super secure carrying cocked and locked. Maybe it is because of my training (or lack thereof) in being drilled with the Beretta M9 and my comfort level with that design, etc. Now...with that being said....my Kimber is actually one of the most accurate guns that I own! Very nice gun, fit and finish is great and it is easy to carry and conceal. It is just my own personal comfort level.
Anyone else have the 'cocked and locked' heebie jeebies?

No...not a hunter. I have occasionally gone with some family members for pheasant hunts...but nothing else really.

Carry the gun unloaded....cocked and unlocked....for a bit.
You'll see that an exposed cocked hammer does not have a mind of it's own.

Re: I just don't care for the 1911...
I voiced my discomfort in carrying a 1911 in condition one last weekend at my favorite gun store (Redding's Hardware in Gettysburg). The guy behind the counter (Vince) reminded me of the grip safety. Now I think I'd be OK w/ cocked and locked. One problem...
I AIN"T GOT A 1911!!!

The series 80 and clones of them allow you to lower the hammer with a round in the chamber. If it is struck such as dropping the gun, the firing pin can’t make contact with the round.
You just need to get use to cocking the hammer back right before or as you draw the weapon.
Just a thought…

As Lycan stated, carry the 1911 unloaded for a while around the house. I'd be willing to bet that after a week/month/year of this, the hammer is still cocked, and the thumb safety is still on. Provided that the gun is completely functional, even if the thumb safety is disengaged, the pistol won't fire without pressure on the grip safety. Cocked and locked is perfectly safe. Just have to train your mind to accept it.

So carry in condition 3. With practice you`ll only lose mili seconds. I carry in 1 and 3 at times. My thought is if you are that unaware of your surroundings that a few mili seconds makes the difference your in deep dodo anyway.

Condition 3 is a LOT slower.
