Carried with one in the chamber...
So I cc'd my new 1911 last night (I've OC'd my Sig on and off around my house/yard), but never before had I carried with a round in the chamber. But I figured it was about time I man up: although an all-steel 1911 would certainly be an effective tool for bludgeoning bad guys
Although I *was* surprised to find that my gun—traveling in my car, around the shops, to a sit-down food joint, and back home—didn't unholster itself and start shooting indiscriminately!

Re: Carried with one in the chamber...
i used to chamber a new round prior to carrying each time and then unchamber the round upon coming home. i decided that that practice is actually less safe than leaving a round chambered in a (pocket) holstered pistol. the current round has been in my gun ~6 months. i will shoot this "clip" soon and reload.

Get thee to a smithy, your pistol is defective!

How new is that 1911? How many rounds through it? Do you carry it with hollow-points? Have you shot a lot of hollow-points through it to make sure it feeds them OK? Cocked an locked is the only way to carry a 1911, IMO.
You can never have enough horsepower or ammunition.

Re: Carried with one in the chamber...
I started carrying a 1911, and cocked and locked was new to me and kinda freaked me out a little. I had no experience with 1911's since my Navy days back in the 80's. I have gotten used to it as this is the way that I carry it now! I also carry a keltec P11 so there is a huge difference!
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise

Re: Carried with one in the chamber...
I always carried with a round chambered,un loading when put in safe then reload the same round only three or four times when un loading,I also shoot that round off once every two weeks, given how many times you unload and re load same round could cause ftfs or ftes,jmo/mdt
