Default Did I just buy a "fake" Mossberg 500 Mariner?

I just got back from the store with my new (used) 500A1 mariner. So as I start to take it apart to do my thorough clean and lube and something caught my eye. The gun is marked 500A not 500A1. Did i just get had?

It has the matte silver finish just like the mariner but I have never actually handled a real mariner so i have nothing to compare it to.

    Thank you

Does anyone have a real mariner that could look at what it says on the stamp?

Did someone just duracoat or cerakote a regular 500?

Did you buy a 500 Special Purpose Mariner, or a 590 Special Purpose Mariner, or a 590A1 Mariner? They all have the same finish: Marinecote™

Its a 500. ive never actually handled marinecote so i do not know. it was sold as a mariner. upon taking it home, i began to think that it may be a regular 500 with duracoat or cerakote on it. how can i tell if it is a mariner other than the marinecote?

Foolproof test: Take it to a bar. If it doesn't end up passed out in a puddle of it's own vomit, then it's not a mariner.

It should say 500A. I don't think there is such a thing as a 500A1. The A1 designation is for the 590 shotguns with the heavy barrel and steel trigger assembly. Adding those to a 500 would make it a 590 so there is no 500A1. If that's all you were worried about, you're fine.

Do you have a picture of the gun? I wanna see it! Mariners are sweet!

The Marinecoat finish should be on all the internal parts and inside the barrel. As long as this is true of your gun, you have an actual Mariner.

I would call Mossberg and have them run the serial number. 2032305300
